Ethical Code
The complex process of scientific publishing involves knowing and sharing a number of ethical principles on part of editors or any members of whatever organizational body of Proposte e ricerche. Economia e società nella storia dell'Italia centrale (henceforth PeR), of reviewers and authors. Such ethical code draws on the Best Practices Guidelines for Journal Editors developed by COPE.
Editor Responsibilities
Decisions on Publishing
The editor is responsible for deciding, on the editorial staff's advice, which manuscript submitted to the journal is to be published. Before making such decision the editor and the editorial staff may discuss the matter with reviewers. The editor and the editorial staff assess papers on the grounds of their content avoiding any and all author discrimination. The editor and the editorial staff may not disclose information concerning a paper except to the author, to the reviewers and the chief editor. Likewise, they may not use paper content to carry out their own research without the author's written consent.
Reviewer Responsibilities
The review process follows the double-blind peer-review method whereby an anonymous manuscript is submitted for comments and anonymous comments are sent to the author. Reviewers advise editors and the chief editor on decisions concerning papers. Such advice may also help authors improve content. Reviewers are to provide comments within the agreed schedule. Review is conducted objectively and comments are to be expressed clearly with supporting evidence. Moreover, reviewers are to report to the editorial staff any possible similarity or overlap between a paper and any other work. All manuscripts are deemed confidential. Hence, such papers may not be discussed with other people without the editorial staffs express approval. Restricted information or data available while the paper is under review is deemed confidential and may not be used for personal purposes. Reviewers are to decline papers involving a competing interest.
Author Responsibilities
Authors guarantee their submitted paper is original, it has not been published yet, nor has it been submitted for publishing elsewhere (or that special notice has been sent to the editor). By submitting their paper authors agree to peer-review. Authors are to disclose any funding body backing their research and/or the project from which the paper ensues, as well as any possible competing interest that may have influenced research findings. Without prejudice to PeR, authors are to obtain, in line with existing laws, all authorization required for the publication of images, tables or other contribution that have already been published. The extent of in-depth detail and description underlying author interpretation (data, bibliography, etc.) required in a scientific paper is such that other authors may replicate the research. Providing deceitful or knowingly inaccurate statements is deemed inappropriate behaviour and may not be tolerated.
Authors are to provide details about sources and contributions mentioned in their paper.
All those who have made a significant contribution to the paper are to be listed as co-authors. In the case of manuscripts by multiple authors and/or contributors, the author submitting the paper to the journal (the corresponding author) is to declare that the names of all co-authors have been correctly provided, that all co-authors have approved the final manuscript and that they have agreed to submit the paper for publishing. If authors detect inaccurate information or a mistake in their submitted manuscript that has been published by PeR, they are to inform the PeR editor or the managing editor promptly and to provide all the relevant information required for drawing the errata.
