Proposte e ricerche. Rivista di storia economica e sociale. An Italian Journal of Social and Economic History is a scholarly history journal. Its founders-Sergio Anselmi, together with Renzo Paci, Ercole Sori, and Bandino Giacomo Zenobi-emerged from the fertile intellectual environment of Quaderni storici delle Marche, established by Alberto Caracciolo in 1966 and renamed Quaderni storici in 1970. They founded Proposte e ricerche in 1978.
Originally conceived as the Bollettino della Sezione di storia dell'agricoltura del Centro ricerche e studi dei beni culturali marchigiani (Bulletin of the Agricultural History Section of the Marche Cultural Heritage Research and Study Centre) based at the Università di Urbino, the journal adopted, with issue no. 16 (1986), the subtitle Rivista di storia dell'agricoltura e delle società rurali marchigiane (Journal of the History of Agriculture and Rural Societies in the Marche Region). The following year, with issue no. 18, this became Rivista di storia dell'agricoltura e della società marchigiana (Journal of the History of Agriculture and Marche Society).
In 1990, with issue no. 24, the journal adopted the subtitle Economia e società nella storia dell'Italia centrale (Economy and Society in the History of Central Italy), which it retained until issue no. 89. Beginning with issue no. 90 (2023), the subtitle became Rivista di storia economica e sociale. An Italian Journal of Social and Economic History.
For more than forty years, the journal has been published continuously, first under the editorship of Sergio Anselmi and, after 1999, of Renzo Paci and Ercole Sori. Since 2011, it has been edited by Francesco Chiapparino.
The Quaderni di Proposte e ricerche, first published in 1983 and issued without a fixed periodicity, have now reached no. 44. They address topics related to the journal's principal fields of scholarly interest.
